Freud: True or False? Contemporary psychologists are least likely to agree with Freud’s belief that, “the ego is first and foremost a body ego.” This was one of the many theories proposed by Sigmund Freud. In fact, most contemporary psychologists argue that the ego is not at all dependent on the physical self. This blog post will explore both sides of this argument, as well as some other aspects of psychoanalysis. We’ll look at how modern psychology has changed since Freud first published his work in 1900s and why he may have been wrong about our egos being solely based off of our bodies. The ego is first and foremost a body ego. This was one of the many theories proposed by Sigmund Freud. In fact, most contemporary psychologists argue that the ego is not at all dependent on the physical self. We often think about who we are individually but there’s also an idea out there called collective identity which argues that people can be part of groups without even realizing it-think for example sports teams or fraternities/
