I don’t know about you, but I love a nice cold can of Coke or Pepsi. The refreshing taste and the satisfying fizz is something that many people enjoy on a daily basis. Some people are even addicted to it! But what if I told you that in some countries, there’s an additional ingredient in your soda: sugar. In this blog post, we’ll talk about how sugar has infiltrated our society by being added as an ingredient to drinks like Coca-Cola and Pepsi Cola. It’s hard to believe that there is an additional ingredient in our pop cans. When I drink a can of Coke or Pepsi, the taste and fizz are nothing but refreshing. However, when you look at the ingredients on the side of these soda cans, it lists sugar as being one of them! It turns out that Coca-Cola has been adding sugar as an ingredient since 1886. This was because they found success with their “French Wine Cola” which had either cane sugar syrup or caramelized sucrose derived from sugarcane juice added to sweeten it up (Coca-Cola Company). And now we know why people enjoy drinking sugary sodas like Coke and Pepsi so much more than ones without any type of sweetness
